BSID OXFORD, 7-9 APRIL 2008
Oral presentations
Oral presentations are scheduled at the rate of four per hour. This allows 12 minutes for presentation and 3 minutes for discussion. In order to allow sufficient time for questions, the 12 minute limit will be strictly enforced.
As previously indicated, all oral presentations should use Microsoft Powerpoint software. Presentations should be previewed on a Windows PC and Powerpoint files can be transferred to the computer in the auditorium via USB flash drive or CD. Please copy your presentation to the PC in the auditorium as early as possible and, at the latest, in the break before the session in which the presentation is to be given.

Posters will be reviewed in two sessions, as outlined in the programme. Presenters should stand by their posters for the designated time during the first poster session.
Posters should be in place before the start of the first poster session and left in place until the end of the meeting. The poster boards will be cloth-covered and suitable for velcro attachments. Velcro will be available from the registration desk.
Suggested guidelines for an effective poster presentation
Title: At the top of each poster should be a label indicating the title, authors, and authors' affiliations, as they appear on the abstract. The lettering on this title strip should be at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) high.
General points: Text should be kept to a minimum and should be readable from a distance of at least 5 feet (1.5 m). Large typeface should be used - 96 point is recommended for the title, 24-36 point for the subtitles and text should be a minimum of 18 point.
An abstract is not necessary. It is printed in the meeting booklet.
The introduction should be brief, outlining the relevant background and the research question being addressed.
Methods are usually brief, unless this is the major thrust of the poster. Relevant methods can be included in the results section.
The results are the main body of the poster and should be presented as figures and/or tables with brief legends describing the conclusions from each figure. The related body of text should be 2-3 paragraphs, each of 6 sentences maximum.
Conclusion should summarise the main three to four points arising from the results section as a bullet point list.
There is generally no need for a discussion section.
Conflict of interest
If there is a real or perceived conflict of interest relating to your work, an announcement should be made prior to your oral presentation or displayed on your poster. For oral presentations, we would suggest a slide to designate the conflict. |
