June 2001
Dear Colleague,
1. BSID Annual Meeting 2001
Running the annual meeting from Monday to Wednesday in Warwick
this year proved very successful. Over 100 delegates attended
the affiliated meetings of the Skin Club, British Contact Dermatitis
Group and British Photodermatology Group on the Monday. 154 delegates
registered for the main BSID programme comprising 31 oral and
42 poster presentations. We used Powerpoint projection for the
first time which worked relatively smoothly apart from the occasional
glitch resulting from Apple to PC conversions. I enclose a summary
of the feedback that we have received. I would like to thank John
Berth-Jones for the time and effort he put into organising the
meeting.

2. BSID Meeting 2002 - Norwich
The next annual meeting will be held in Norwich. Our local organiser
is Dr. Clive Grattan. Following feedback at Warwick we have arranged
the meeting at the University of Norwich to run from Monday 25
to Wednesday 27 March 2002. On Monday morning there will be a
meeting of the British Photodermatology Group which will be followed
by a meeting of the Skin Club on "skin allergy" in the
afternoon. The main BSID meeting will start on the Tuesday. Our
overseas guest speaker will be Jan Bouwes Bavinck from Leiden,
Holland, who will speak about his work on non-melanoma skin cancer.
In response to feedback at the AGM, we have put the abstract deadline
back this year to December 2001 but there will be no late breaking
abstracts. Further details will follow in the September newsletter.
We hope to continue with our approach of encouraging a broad field
of dermatological and skin related research and actively encourage
clinical and epidemiological research in addition to the traditional
laboratory-based format.
3. New Committee Members
Jane Sterling finished her term of office as treasurer and stood
down from the committee. We are very grateful to Jane for all
her hard work as treasurer and for her contribution to the committee.
Tony Quinn also stood down after a three year term of office and
we are grateful for Tony's contribution to the society.
Dr. Eugene Healy and Prof. John McGrath were elected onto the
committee in Warwick.
4. E-mail communication
As discussed at the AGM we plan to move over to electronic communication
during 2001 and will communicate solely in this format from 2002.
Newsletters and information about forthcoming meetings will be
posted on a newly configured BSID website later in the year. Please
provide us with information regarding e-mails or change of address
(available electronically by request). Alternatively e-mail the
BSID at bsid@ncl.ac.uk
Best wishes.
Yours sincerely,
Nick J. Reynolds
Chairman
