The BSID Collaborative Research Award, offers the opportunity for a BSID ECR to visit another laboratory. It is open to Early Career Researchers (ECRs), i.e. clinical fellows, PhD students and post-doctoral researchers, who are BSID members and wish to visit a dermatology laboratory to learn a new technique or to carry out a short-term collaborative project. The award aims to support young skin scientists and foster collaborations, offering up to £3000 towards relocation costs and/or research consumables.
At the BSID meeting 2026 in Manchester Dr Sheila McSweeney, from St. John’s Institute of Dermatology, was announced as the 2026 awardee to carry out a project titled “ A data-driven multiomic study to elucidate vitiligo pathogenesis” visiting the lab of Prof. Johann E. Gudjonsson at the A. Alfred Taubman Medical Research Institute, University of Michigan, USA. Sheila will present her work at the 2027 BSID meeting in York.
