Commitment to sustainability
The BSID is committed to championing sustainability within dermatological research and to making this a core feature of our meetings and educational activities.
Our core objectives are to reduce carbon emissions and resource utilisation in the following ways:
Championing sustainable research
- The BSID remains committed to supporting its members engage with the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF) and My Green lab.
- Sustainability will feature strongly within our annual meetings, e.g. with e-posters showcasing sustainability projects and networking opportunities with sustainability champions driving the sustainability agenda at their institutions.
Sustainable travel
- Our annual meetings are held in major UK cities allowing land-based travel and use of public transport
- BSID committee meetings are virtual ensuring that members do not need to travel to attend them
- When attending international conferences, the BSID recommends land-based transport to its members where possible
Reducing material consumption and waste
- Information to conference delegates will be disseminated digitally
- Physical materials distributed to conference delegates will be limited to essential items which are recyclable.
- Delegates at our annual meeting will be encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottle, pens and writing materials.
- Where possible electronic poster boards will be used to replace printed materials
- Catering at annual meetings will be locally sourced and food waste will be recycled
